LIVESEED tomato trials
In summer 2019, SEAE and UPV organised a panel testing exercise from their LIVESEED tomato trials in Valencia, mostly involving traditional local varieties from several Spanish regions. The below video explains how they set up the panel tasting with consumers as part of a participatory breeding program and carried out jointly an organoleptic evaluation of each variety. Templates with evaluation parameters (aroma, appearance, taste, texture, etc.), as well as the presentation given by Dr. Adrian Rodriguez Burruezo, are available for download.

Lupine cultivation: success with new varieties Frieda and Sulimo
White lupines are an alternative protein source to soy, both in animal feed and for human nutrition. So far, however, the fungal disease anthracnose has been a big problem for cultivation, whilst high alkaloid content limits its nutritional value. In the scope of LIVESEED, FiBL in cooperation with GZPK, CREA, LBI and UBIOS, started a lupin breeding network to develop improved cultivars combining high tolerance to anthracnose, drought and calcareous soils, with low alkaloid content (WP3.4). Thanks to the two new varieties Sulimo and Frieda there is now a new impetus for white lupine cultivation. In this video, Christine Arncken, FIBL, shows the advantages of the new lupine varieties and presents the latest results from the growing trials at different locations. The video was made by FiBL during a field day to support local legume value chains in the framework of the H2020 projects LIVESEED, REMIX and LegumesTranslated with the support of BioSuisse and the Swiss Ministry for Agriculture (BLW).
